With its founders being practising Pattachitra artists from Odisha’s heritage village of Raghurajpur, Kalasampatti’s relationship with the art it draws from is both direct and deeply personal.
What began as a simple question would become the defining thought behind Kalasampatti: how might one have a piece of this artistic heritage close, as part of everyday life?
The answer: daily life essentials that carry art, bringing with them the stories and aesthetic richness of the land.

The Founders
“I wanted to take Pattachitra home, not only as a painting, but as something that would become a part of my everyday.”
Hi, I’m Bhargavi, a scientist, practising Pattachitra and calligraphy artist, and writer.
Though I was first introduced to the Navarasa through Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music, it was in the bold colours of Pattachitra that I found my voice. Over the years, my understanding of the art has been enriched by the guidance and artistic wisdom of my co-founders. Their mentorship opened the door to the depth and diversity of India’s artistic, cultural, and intellectual heritage, inspiring a lifetime aspiration to explore its richness. Much as I love art, admiring a painting on a wall from a distance is never enough; I long to hold it in my hands, soak in its textures, and feel each brushstroke come alive beneath my fingertips. This curiosity eventually became one of the founding thoughts that shaped Kalasampatti.
Today, that aspiration finds expression through Kalasampatti, my work as a brain scientist, and my engagement with storytelling, linguistic translation of literature, and script writing for Indian cinema. Through these pursuits, I seek to discover not only the stories of our civilisation but also, through a scientific lens, its profound effects on shaping the human brain.

Hi, I’m Purusottam Swain (Chandan), a sixth-generation Pattachitra artist from Odisha’s heritage village of Raghurajpur.
Son of internationally renowned Pattachitra artists, my home was my first school, where Pattachitra was not merely taught but lived. Surrounded by generations of artistic practice, I grew up immersed in a tradition that shaped my artistic journey through both inheritance and innovation. Furthering this foundation through certification from NIFT Odisha, I have had the opportunity to showcase my work at exhibitions across India. From adapting monochromatic and dual-tone palettes within traditional paintings to designing Pattachitra-inspired T-shirts, furniture, murals, café spaces, and interiors, I have always believed that tradition grows stronger when it finds new expressions.
Today, I lead a team of artists, develop new Pattachitra-inspired creations, and continue to build new possibilities for the tradition in contemporary life.

Hi, I’m Sachikanta Sahoo, a sixth-generation Pattachitra artist from Odisha’s heritage village of Raghurajpur. Growing up in Raghurajpur, a community where generations of families have devoted their lives to Pattachitra, my understanding of the tradition began long before I ever held a brush.
From creating storyboards inspired by the visual language of Pattachitra to collaborating on pioneering artistic ventures, I have always explored new ways of presenting the tradition. To me, preserving Pattachitra is about ensuring that its stories, techniques, and artistic language continue to be understood, experienced, and carried forward by new generations.
Along this journey, my work has been featured at over 100 exhibitions, workshops, art fairs, and creative forums across the country, alongside certifications from NIFT, Delhi and IIT Jammu. Today, I continue to share the richness of Pattachitra through workshops, mentorship, and collaborative initiatives, helping new audiences engage with a tradition that has made me who I am.
