The Raghurajpur Heritage Walk

Raghurajpur : A Living Heritage

Odisha’s first Heritage Crafts Village, Raghurajpur, is a small village situated in the sacred Puri district, on the banks of the Bhargavi River. Established under the patronage of the Gajapati rulers, it came into existence exclusively for the Chitrakars, the generational artists of Pattachitra entrusted with creating the sacred paintings of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra during the Anasara period, alongside ritual paintings for the Jagannath Temple every year.

There comes a point during a walk through Raghurajpur when you stop looking for paintings and realise you
have been walking through one all along.
Here, the village is the gallery.
The courtyard is the studio.
The verandah is the classroom.
Lessons are waiting around every corner.
And generations of artistic wisdom are only a conversation away.
